“Apparently, Tom wanted me involved. So he called my manager and my manager called me and said, ‘Tom Hanks really wants you to be in his movie’, and I said, ‘Sure’,” she told the Huffington Post.
“And my manager was like, ‘Maybe you should read the script first’, and I was like, ‘No, I don’t have to read the script, it’s Tom Hanks, that’s a no brainer,” she continued. “I don’t care, I could play a tree or a rock, it’s Tom Hanks’.”
In the film, due July 1, Hanks plays a man who is downsized from his job and decides to reinvent himself by enrolling in college, where he forms some unexpected bonds with fellow students. He also catches the eye of Mercedes Tainot, a female professor played by Julia Roberts.
Henson plays Crowne’s next door neighbor B’Ella, a working class woman who hits it rich when she and her husband, played by Cedric the Entertainer, win the lottery. Scroll down to watch the trailer.

The athlete has signed on to promote a muscle-relief heat rub made by Japan- based Kowa Co.
Woods will serve as an “image character” for the company’s Antiphlogistic Analgetic Vantelin Kowa series of products, the Nagoya-based company said in a press release. A television commercial with Woods will debut in Japan in mid-July, the company said.
Kowa didn’t disclose terms of the agreement in its release.
Golf’s former No. 1-ranked player was injured in a one-car accident in November 2009 that led to his admission of marital infidelity and the downfall of his personal and professional career. He also hasn’t won a tournament since just before the crash.
Over the past 18 months, Woods, 35, has lost endorsement agreements with companies including AT&T Inc., Accenture and PepsiCo Inc.’s Gatorade brand. The 14-time major champion has maintained commercial contracts with Electronic Arts Inc., Nike Inc., Upper Deck, Berkshire Hathaway’s NetJets Inc., and TLC Vision Corp.
Woods hasn’t played in a tournament since May 12, when he aggravated knee and ankle injuries sustained during the Masters Tournament in April.
Woods said in a news conference this week that he won’t return to action until he feels 100 percent healthy, putting his participation in next month’s British Open in question. Woods is hosting this week’s AT&T National tournament, a U.S. PGA Tour event which benefits his charitable foundation, at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.
MTV is bringing viewers behind the scenes of Beyonce’s fourth solo album, “4” with the half-hour special “Beyonce: Year of 4,” premiering tonight at 7 p.m.
“Beyonce has always placed her fans first and this special will give them front row seats to the intimate process of creating her newest album ’4,’” says MTV Music Group president, Van Toffler.
The intimate special will even document her personal time at home with husband Jay-Z, which she personally shot with her own camera.
In the clip, Bey details the importance of being a successful role model for females.
The five-man collective, which consists of Fish Scales, B. Tille, Clutch, Big. V. and Skinny DeVille, is currently in Organized Noize' Dungeon East recording studio.
“We’ve been credited with creating the “Sound of the South,” and Nappy Roots is considered the “Conscience of the South,” so it’s great that Nappy wanted to work with us,” says Rico Wade of the Noize team, which also includes Sleepy Brown and Ray Murray. “People are going to be impressed by this album.”
Rico Wade's boasts shouldn't be taken lightly. Wade and Organized Noize have crafted hit albums and songs for Outkast, TLC, Ludacris, Xscape and others,
“It’s an honor to be working with legends like Organized Noize," said group member Skinny DeVille. "Nappy Roots is a family and Organized Noize is like our older cousins that we haven’t seen in a while, so the [sessions are] like a family reunion. We stayed true to ourselves, but Organized Noize has pushed our limits and taken the music to the next level.”
Nappy Roots' upcoming album is being released by AVJ Records, a joint venture run by Jason "Boogie" Brown and Shannon Houchins that has artists like country rapper Colt Fold, Montgomery Gentry and Corey Smith.
"We’re happy to be partnering up with Nappy Roots on the next stage of their career," said Shannon Houchins. "They are an important part of Hip Hop history and we are honored to continue their legacy.”

Recently, Elba was chosen as a guest speaker for the Lens Project’s “Artist Spotlight” series at Rutgers University in February and gave his opinion on many topics including the not-so-nice Spike Lee/Tyler Perry feud.
Elba addressed the audience by saying, “Can I be candid? I don’t like all of Tyler Perry’s films. Yes, I did work with Tyler for ‘Daddy’s Little Girls’ because it portrayed a positive image of a black father. I am happy for Tyler’s success…we need Tyler Perry…by going to support his movies, we need to show economic strength. But we are also responsible for elevating film. I’m not with buffoonish characters like Madea or Big Momma.”

Eva Mendes is not only the face of Angel by Thierry Mugler, she's also the voice. Last Thursday, the 37-year-old actress unveiled the top-selling fragrance's new ethereal print campaign in NYC, and revealed that she will even be singing in the on-air commercials this fall.
"This campaign has been so beautifully collaborative," Mendes told omg! "I really can honestly say I've never felt so creatively satisfied with doing a campaign before. From the costuming to the music to the fact that I sing on the commercial to the overall look, I just feel like it's been a true partnership and I couldn't be happier."
While the perfume commercial will mark Eva's singing debut, don't expect the brunette beauty to be releasing an album any time soon. "A few years ago I started taking professional vocal lessons," she shares. "It's not a goal of mine, to make an album or anything like that. With my singing, I was just doing it as a fun exercise. That was always the goal. Try to hone a skill and have fun. I have always been of the mentality that if you prepare yourself for something, if you work on your instrument, opportunities will present themselves and that's exactly what happened with this."
When she learned that she'd be singing one of her favorite songs of all time, "Windmills of Your Mind," that sealed the deal for Mendes, who wasn't apprehensive at all about lending her voice to the ads. "Fear seems to rear its head with me if I don't feel that things are organically taking place," she notes. Still, the actress doesn't claim to be the best singer in the world, and laughs when asked if she has the voice of the angel. "My mother would think so!" she says. "The good thing about ['Windmills of Your Mind'] is that it's almost like reading poetry."
One would think a much bigger vocal challenge would present itself when Eva tackles the role of opera singer Maria Callas on the big screen. "I would never try to recreate Maria Callas' voice," she insists. "I cannot and I don't think anybody living could recreate that voice. It was so unique." Fortunately, the script, which is still in development, doesn't focus strictly on Callas as a musical genius. "It's about her being the opera diva she is known for," says Mendes. "It's about the heartbreaking and tumultuous affair she had with the love of her life, Aristotle Onassis. It's really a love story and the singing is more of a backdrop than anything."
Speaking of relationships, Mendes -- who has been with her Peruvian filmmaker beau George Augusto since 2002 -- ruffled some married folks' feathers when she stated on "Chelsea Lately" that she finds marriage to be "very unsexy." For the record, she wants everyone to know that she's not anti-marriage. It's just not for her. "It's just something I don't feel I need in my personal life," she explains. "If people think they need that, that's fine and great for them. I'm all for a spiritual union, a monogamous beautiful union. I just don't need to have a piece of paper that puts that union into effect."

A bone marrow transplant can be a cure for someone with sickle cell disease or other illnesses like leukemia and lymphoma. Most patients who need transplants do not have a match in their family and depend on the Be The Match Registry to find a match.
But many African Americans and other minorities can’t find marrow donors – like Imani Cornelius, of Minneapolis. Imani was recently diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and her only hope for a cure is a bone marrow transplant. Her doctors continue to search the Be The Match Registry for a matching donor, but that search has not been easy as Imani is biracial.
Right now, the chance of finding a match on the Be The Match Registry is close to 93 percent for Caucasians, but for African Americans and other minorities, the chances can be as low as 66 percent.
The tissue types used for matching patients with donors are inherited, so patients are most likely to find a match within their own racial or ethnic heritage. There are 9 million people on the Be The Match Registry, but only 7 percent are African American.
Jonathan Nazeer, of Greensboro, N.C., saw firsthand the need for more African American donors when his friend was searching for a match. Jonathan joined the registry in 2006 on her behalf. Just a few years later he was called to donate to a 52-year-old woman battling a rare disease.
“Donating is life-changing, not only for the individual who is receiving the transplant, but even for you. To know that you may have played a small part in actually saving someone’s life is extremely fulfilling,” said Nazeer, who was recently contacted again as a match for an 18-year-old boy.
While the number of transplants that the NMDP facilitates for African American patients has doubled since 2004, more people of African American descent are urgently needed on the Be The Match Registry so that more lives can be saved.
“We have made great strides in expanding the number of patients and the range of diseases that can be treated with bone marrow transplants,” said Jeffrey W. Chell, M.D., chief executive officer of the National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP), which operates the Be The Match Registry. “But we need more volunteers – from every ethnic and racial background – to meet the ultimate challenge of helping every patient find a life-saving donor.”
