Now Showing in Atlanta: Spunk

Its been years since I've read and studied the writings of Zora Neal Hurston's three short stories called Spunk. However, to see her works come to life through George C. Wolfe's adaptation on stage was amazing. Kenny Leon's True Colors Theatre Company debuted Spunk at the 14th Street Playhouse in Atlanta to a packed house this past weekend and the show continues to delight.

"I git to the git with some pain n’ some spit n’ some spunk.”

The singing and comedic timing was impeccable while the dark and heart-tugging scenes didn't neglect to evoke emotion. What True Colors Theatre offered was a track back in time where the trash talk and slang were razor sharp. Fine and sexy women came with big breasts, thighs and hips. Her fullness guaranteed a man would be well taken care of if he was so blessed to land her.

Starring: Bernardine Mitchell, Cycerli Ash, Brad Raymond, Geoffrey D .Williams, Gilbert Glenn Brown, Tawana Lael, and Theodis Ealey, Spunk was adapted by George C. Wolfe featuring music by S. Renee Clark.

Spunk will continue its run through October 13th and will only be $10 this weekend. Use the Promo Code: TCINDUSTRY for $10 tickets to all shows from 9/27-29. Discount tickets must be purchased in advance. Discount codes will not be accepted at the door.
